This Tokoname-yaki kyusu (teapot) has a round shape in a modern design.  The teapot's built-in ceramic filter is perfect for naturally straining tea, with a wide shape for faster pouring and less clogging.

Dimensions & Material:
10.5 x 9 cm
250 ml - total capacity
Ceramic material with ceramic mesh.
Do not use in microwave or dishwasher. Hand wash to clean.

Style:
The chaho (茶逢) is a variation on the shiboridashi and a relatively new style of teapot. It combines the simplicity and ease of cleaning with a shiboridashi or houhin, with the filtering power of a kyusu. Attached to the underside of the lid, it has a sesame-style ceramic filter which naturally strains your tea without altering its flavor. Having the filter here makes it easier to drain out every last drop of tea by turning the whole teapot almost upside down.

Tokoname-yaki (常滑焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Tokoname in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The site of one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, making pottery since the 12th century.

Today, Tokoname ware is known for its iconic brick-red clay called shudei. Famously used in teaware and bonsai pots, this clay’s vibrant colour comes from its rich iron content.  Left unglazed but high-temperature fired (yakijime), Tokoname teapots will absorb some of the bitterness in your tea, creating a more rounded flavor profile. Expect the pot to age as a result of this absorption, turning brownish in color over time.
